Continually showing you score as a rating keeps you motivated.

Graphics are sub-standard. But the worse is the lack of instruction. You dont know if the solution is 1,2,3 or more moves. Would be nice to know. Also, are you playing for mate, or a position that eventually leads to mate?

Great for passing time and honing tactical vision!!

Except solutions that involve promotion to queen hang up and alternative move mates fail to pass as correct.

This is a great App that works very well. I really like that tactic puzzles can be played off line as well. My only wish is, there was a choice of a dark background, such as black or navy blue. White hurts my eyes. I will probably be buying the extra puzzles, too. Thanks, Elaine

Great for picking up and playing at any time. New puzzles each day, so it has great replay value.

Great puzzles love progress mode. My tactic skills have improved since using this app.

Great app for novices like me. Minor issue with the "Easy Mates" pack: numbers 139 and 202 insist youre wrong when you do the right move. Not a big deal. App is great on long plane flights.

Some puzzles are great, youll put your opponent in checkmate in an array of puzzles, but others, make no sense. Like, youll take your opponents rook and it will say congratulations you won!

I would consider myself a 3.5 out of 10 as far as skill. These puzzles are awesome. They help me look at chess differently. It is crazy some of answers. I really have enjoyed it. In my 10 years or so of having apps, this is the first one I felt like writing a review for.

About half of the puzzles I completed indicated that the tactics used were "correct" and resulted in a checkmate when, in fact, they did not.

This tactics trainer has a Favorite mechanism, and with good reason. There are some absolutely awesome puzzles in here. Playing this has me wonder where all the choice tactics came from. The puzzles are so much better than the one-and-done tactics offered a minute at a time by chess.com app. This is a steal. Emmanuel Mathis is a hell of a coder I reckon , based on this and his other apps. By the way Emmanuel, small bug. If a puzzle ends in a queen promotion, the puzzle doesnt register as solved. Ive had this happen a few times. I have a screen capture of one, let me know if you want it.

Found a two move mate, but dumbfounded that it was not accepted, I searched for a few minuets to see if there was any possible way I could be wrong. It was in fact secure, but playing along with the app I was forced to checkmate 4 moves later. The app should detect if you found mate and not be limited to its exact framework. A tactics app that allowed any move as long as it lead to a solution would be great, but for the sake of time I know these developers should just specify which rout you should take by captioning each puzzle (i.e. Mate in 4) so that I dont look for a mate in 2, find it, and then give a bad review--deserved because such a tactics app is counterproductive because it trains its users to use bad chess strategy!

A good practice app. Do all six almost every night. Enjoyable.
