Instructions missing

I bought this for my son who is interested in learning chess. I did not find any instructions on how to use or solve the different puzzles. Maybe it is obvious for an experienced player but not for a newcomer. It is not stated in how many moves a puzzle can be solved and I do not understand whether in every case white or black is the expected winner. Is it always the one that is starting with the moves?
Would be nice if someone could help me on this,
