Some of the puzzles are difficult to figure out by non-experts. A Mate position is easy to identify but some of the puzzles don’t even capture anything and any positional accomplishment is not immediately apparent to players with less experience.

The most improvement I’ve seen in my game but it’s not imo for beginners levels unless u can follow with more awareness than myself. But after I was 1000 or just under rating it sharpened my eye and ability a ton.

Great little app with 6 puzzles. I do the 6 every day. The “analysis” button gives a lot of insight. 5 stars.

The puzzles are wonderful. Love the ability to see what moves an ai competitor would make when you move different pieces around. Would love to see an option for the app to be able to move itself when the analyze feature is enabled. But it’s a great app regardless.

I don’t get to play much but this app helps me keep my skills sharp.

Nice free app overall. It often generates great tactical solutions and thought processes that stimulate a complete new way of thinking and understanding the game.

Some of these puzzles have issues with making sense. Don’t get me wrong I am a long time player and it’s my favorite game to play! Just some of the puzzles solutions have glitches or holes.

Helps you improve very much. Very useful in games.

The puzzles are frustratingly fun. I do wish they would tell you if you’re just trying to improve or find checkmate.

I have been solving the daily puzzles on this app for nearly 3 years now. Great variety and often challenging. No ads and great engine for analysis that can be toggled with the click of a button.

Absolute must have!

I am no chess genius. But today’s daily puzzle (easy) called for white to mate in 1 move. The only way to check the king was with the knight. But the solution required the knight to move where a pawn could take it. This has happened before.

Tactic #339 in easy puzzles is bogus where the opponent makes a blunder on the second move, that’s not really how this works. Most tactics are pretty solid though. Would be awesome to tag and sort on tags. That way I could wood pecker.

I really like the fact that you can play the puzzle out to see the end results. There are other apps out there that leave less advanced players more puzzled after solving the problem. This one you can see the end result. Definitely helps with understanding this complex game.

It’s a great app i think its good for those who cannot afford money to buy chess games and they still wanna learn chess but it’s missing En Passant which is a really affecting on some games.

The first puzzle wanted check in 2 but check in 1 was possible.

The update crashes the app and won’t even open. I like the daily puzzles but now I can’t even use it. Please fix thanks.

Sometimes the solution is not a checkmate, but the capture of another piece. The continuation to checkmate is not always very straightforward. I enjoy the challenge however.

This app is very useful! I do like it a lot and the only thing I find bad about this is the moves. Sometimes there is a move that is good, but a there is better move. If I’m trying to checkmate, and when I make a move the game says it wrong because I should capture a piece instead, rather than checkmate. Very solid game though, would recommend.

I’ve had this a short time, but I use it daily. No complaints so far.

It’s pretty good if you are already ok at chess it doesn’t really say why the moves are correct but it helps to understand more I think

A lot of the puzzles are really straight forward and good for beginner and intermediate players. What frustrates me the most about the puzzles is that several of the hard puzzles have more than one winning solution; backed by computer analysis. Sometimes you can play a move that absolutely wins, but it’s not the “best” line. Let’s be honest, if one line is +10, and I go with the line that’s +8, they’re both winning. In my mind, a puzzle should only have one “winning” solution. Additionally, there are some puzzles that are mate in x, and you can be wrong if you choose a mating line that takes more moves than the intended solution, i.e., The puzzle may be a mate in 3, but you choose a line that’s mate in 4. It really doesn’t matter. Checkmate is checkmate. I really like this app and have been using it for a long time; I don’t want my frustrations to dismiss that fact. It would beneficial (in my opinion) to introduce alternative correct moves that give the user a chance to find the best solution rather than flat out calling it wrong.

One feature I really like that I haven’t seen on other puzzle apps is if I am stuck on a puzzle, I can ask for a hint and the piece that needs to move is highlighted, and then I can keep working on the puzzle.

cool concept but its obvious that the developers dont play the actual game. in an easy rated puzzle they would make me trade my queen for bishop and itll say solved...???? wdym solved bro that didndt do anything good whatsoever.

I like the app enough to order an all access pass but never got access. Not sure what happened to my order but Apple Pay got funds from my account no problem My communication with support has gone unanswered so screw the all access

Having an app dedicated solely to chess puzzles makes solving the chess puzzles much more fun. I love that there are six daily puzzles easy medium and hard puzzles. Being a beginner starting with the easy puzzles and then progressing to the harder ones is a nice way to exercise my visualization skills. Thanks so much for the app!!

Great chess app!

Love the app but I kinda want to see the lines after I checkmate to see why because my sight is bad

I have enjoyed using this app for practice in helping me improve my ability in seeing possibilities through the variety of scenarios presented. I do have one concern, which is that the night time feature doesn’t turn off during the day. Overall, this is a wonderful app!

Nice puzzles, easy to play, lots of fun

Really enjoy the daily puzzles. They are very good at sharpening my skills.

I enjoy sitting down and doing chess puzzles. Even thought, it’s A great app for chess puzzles. It’s very hard to understand how it helps in the position. I hope that there would be A explanation bar on the side, or something. So I’m able to understand the position more. Otherwise this app is A great, it’s helpful to see patterns in real games. Also it’s easy to use. Unlike most apps, this actually has puzzles, that’s good.

I love Chess.com &, I can’t play offline, or do puzzles offline while on an airplane. CTP is great for offline play and training. My boredom on my last few flights has improved my game. Love solving puzzles on an airplane!

Really like how there are hundreds of free puzzles without any pay-wall, but some of the puzzles make zero sense. Checkmate opportunity? Nah, that’s wrong. You should sacrifice your queen for bishop’s discovered attack on a knight that can just move out of the way. Solved!

Every chess player should have this app, it’s great for everyone!

I am too much a novice to be able to critically evaluate the intricacy of the puzzles, but appreciate the varied options, and the unobtrusive advertisements. Many thanks; this novice is learning.

Too many of your scenarios depend on unrealistic responses. Nobody in their right mind would pass up sacrificing a pawn for a queen as much as you depend on it.

So far from a beginner standpoint this is the most well established app for newbies trying to do more chess puzzles most apps have some paid subscription thing, this doesn’t you can do as many as you want and they have daily puzzles and well easy medium and hard, I have been using this religiously and see a big difference in my chess play online! Good work!

Although there are some puzzles that aren’t clear advantages, and some where there are more than one good move, overall a very good learning aid.

Paid is only a few bucks and you get hundreds of puzzles. But I used the free version over a year and loved it. This app is probably 90% responsible for my improvement in chess over the last several years. Just 5 to 10 minutes a day helps keep you sharp.

So many different scenarios to analyze and practice. Each one helps build your skill set and helps you learn to think several moves ahead. If you are already a master, this may not be challenging enough for you. But masters are a smaller percentage of all the people who already play or want to learn to play chess.

This is a great way of learning small setups and ways to view different aspects of attacks. The problem is that some of the moves are illegal or moves you've already selected but the program said they were wrong.

I enjoy this app somewhat, however it has one big flaw: the categorization of puzzles as “easy”, “medium”, and “hard” is way off. For example, I just did a “medium” puzzle in which determining the correct solution required you to deduce that if black played f6 in response to white’s first move, it would be mate in 9, and so black would instead play Qxg5, and give up the queen for a knight. Really? Seeing a 9 move checkmate is “medium”?? And this isn’t a rare case. Most medium puzzles seem to be around this same level of difficulty. And yeah I get it, I’m not that good, I admit it. However, those of us who want to get better would be better served by having more tactics problems that fall between mate-in-one and 9 move look-aheads. They need about 8-10 difficulty levels, and it should be based on how many moves ahead you need to see in order to solve. Something that you need to see 9 moves into the future should be pretty high up on the difficulty scale, not “medium”. Aside from that frustration, the app is decent, and it works well, and I mess around with it almost every day. Ps: one other small nit: I would rather have zero mate-in-one or mate-in-two problems. The app styles itself as a “tactics” app, but to me, a checkmate problem isn’t training me in “tactics”. I would rather see more forks, skewers, discovered attacks, pins, removal-of-guard problems. Not that checkmate problems aren’t fun, I just need more practice with those other things.
